Hip, tailbone or groin pain

Mechanical pain is common, but one label can hide pelvic-girdle, nerve, joint, clot or abdominal causes that need different care.

What to know or do

Ask for assessment when pain changes walking, sleep or daily function. Seek urgent care for inability to bear weight, a hot swollen leg, weakness, numbness around the groin, bladder changes or severe sudden pain.

What changes the answer

  • When it began, whether it is worsening, and how it affects eating, sleep or activity
  • Severity, pattern, one-sided symptoms and accompanying bleeding, fever or fluid loss
  • Pregnancy week, baby movement and relevant conditions or medicines
